About Me
1976 was a bad year to complete a PhD; universities weren't hiring. Sometimes universities created limited term appointments to keep alive those graduates they thought might actually survive the fierce competition. I was in the final year of such a term appointment at the University of Toronto when I built most of the children's beds, gambling that they might lead to a career in design, since a university appointment seemed so unlikely. But then against the odds I ended up with a position in English at the University of Victoria, from which I recently retired.
The hanging here pictured seems appropriate to this story for it combines images associated with death and resurrection. I designed it and began the sewing. Geraldine Barringer completed it.
The websites below relate in one way or another with my own.
